OAS Defends its Turf
OAS Defends its Turf.

release...
While the OAS has enjoyed hemispheric
dominance over the 19 decades, the formation of new regional
groupings like CELAC and UNASUR means that some have come to
question the future of the almost two century-old
organization. Proponents of the new group like CELAC founder
and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, claim that the OAS'
influence in the region is on the decline while the OAS
insists that it can work hand-in-hand with these new groups
in order to help solve some of the regions most pressing
problems. COHA examines the rise and impact of these new
organizations on hemispheric relations.
