Deputy Secretary Nides' Trip to Korea and Japan

Deputy Secretary of State Thomas R. Nides will travel to Korea and Japan February 27 - March 2, 2012.

In Seoul, Deputy Secretary Nides will meet with senior government officials to discuss a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues. While there, he will also meet with the American and Korean business leaders and a gathering of women entrepreneurs and students.

In Tokyo, Deputy Secretary Nides will meet with senior officials and representatives of the government of Japan to discuss key economic and political issues. Deputy Secretary Nides will be joined by nine U.S. ambassadors from the Asia Pacific region at the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce Annual Meeting to continue the dialogue with U.S. businesses and our partners abroad started at the Secretary’s Global Business Conference on February 21. In his remarks, the Deputy Secretary will discuss how the U.S. government supports U.S. businesses overseas for the benefit of both our countries and the region. The U.S. ambassadors from the region will participate in a panel discussion on advancing U.S. government collaboration with U.S. businesses throughout Asia.

Deputy Secretary Nides’ travel to Korea and Japan reinforces our close consultation and cooperation with the Governments of Japan and Korea on a wide range of pressing bilateral, regional, and global issues.

Deputy Secretary Nides will return to Washington, DC on March 2.
