San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas, February 25, 2012

Yesterday, February 24, 2012, at approximately 5:00 pm, compañera Dominga López Díaz, wife of Enrique Gómez Hernández (member of Solidarity with the voice of Al Amate), was deprived of her liberty in an arbitrary and violent manner by elements of the PGR (Attorney General's Office) dressed in civilian clothes.

Dominga was with hier youngest daughter and her son in Anexo Morelos Street, near the neighbourhood of La Hormiga, in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, when she was separated from them and violently bundled into a red vehicle of TSURU make, by two men in civilian clothes. According to witnesses another man and a woman participated in the kidnapping of the compañera.

At least one of the kidnappers of Dominga was armed because she saw a gun in his belt. The vehicle in which she was thrown left at high speed by the ring road of the city until arriving at a place near Las Peras, located in the neighborhood of St Pablo. The kidnappers began to abuse her, they asked for 50,000 pesos to set her free, if she could not pay that much money they were going to put her in Almate prison, like her husband. They told her to contact her family but Dominga told them she could not remember any phone number. They spoke to her of her husband, compañero Enrique, telling her that perhaps he could pay the ransom.

It should be mentioned that our compañera Dominga had surgery a few months ago for a very serious disease and that at this time was recovering her health. Being in such delicate health in such an aggressive situation the compañera began to feel very sick and became very pale. The kidnappers took her to the Red Cross, then from there to the Las Culturas hospital, and finally to the Bonilla hospital, where she received medical attention and was prescribed painkillers and antibitotics.

She was then driven to the premises of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, where the compañera could see her kidnappers interacting completely normally with the elements of the PGR. Dominga was released around 11:00 pm.

We recall that compañera Dominga is the wife of prisoner Enrique Gómez Hernández, belonging to the organization Solidarity with the Voice of Amate and is held in the CERSS No. 14 of Cintalapa de Figueroa, El Amate. The compañera Dominga actively participated in the encampment of relatives held in the plaza of the Cathedral of San Cristóbal de Las Casas during the hunger strike and fast undertaken by prisoners of the above organization and by the organization La Voz del Amate y Voces Inocentes (Voice of Amate and Innocent Voices). The hunger strike began on September 29, 2011 and ended 39 days later, achieving the release of two members of the organization Solidarity with the Voice of Al Amate.

The aggression committed by members of the PGR, in civilian clothes without identification, against compañera Dominga and against their families, and her abduction which their children witnessed and which also obviously affected her husband, was performed with the intention to wear down and harassment them, and also indirectly her organization, Solidarity with the Voice of Al Amate which is fighting for justice.

We denounce the arbitrary deprivation of liberty that the bad government, through the Attorney General, made against our compañera Dominga López Díaz, violating herfundamental rights as a strategy of harassment and psychological torture.
