Crisis of Medicine Never-Ending .. Death Looms Over Gaza Patients

Crisis of medicines has aggravated in the Gaza Strip, whereas, Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza declared that hospitals and primary care centers are close to real catastrophe due to the acute and dangerous shortage of drugs and medical supplies, and more than 180 varieties of medicines balance is zero in the warehouses of the Ministry of Health, while 200 kinds of the most important medical supplies are completely ended.

So, Palestinian journalists in collaboration with the Information Office of Ambulance and Emergency in the Gaza Strip launched a page on "Facebook"; to warn of disaster in Gaza several years ago. The organizers of this page confirmed that this initiative is to draw the world attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Kashif, Director General of International Cooperation at Ministry of Health, confirmed that the ministry is compelled to reduce the number of surgical services in hospitals and primary health care centers, so, they fail to provide medical services to heart patients, pressure, diabetes, tumors and other serious cases.

Dr. Al-Kashif said: "there are more than 40% of essential medicines is not present in the warehouses in addition to 180 varieties of important drugs, and 200 species of other medical supplies are missing from the warehouse of Gaza Strip.

Al-Kashif called the international community and humanitarian organizations "to immediately intervene to stop this crime against Gaza patients," and he urged the World Health Organization "to intervene immediately in order to enter medicines to patients in the Gaza Strip."

The general director of pharmacy in the Health Ministry, Dr. Munir Al-Bursh said: "The Gaza Strip is still experiencing a health crisis that is considered the most serious since years," calling the Ministry of Health in Ramallah to accelerate to send medicines and medical supplies.

He also called for lifting the siege on the Gaza Strip and open crossings to enter drugs and allow patients to gain access to hospitals outside Gaza.
