Rafat Hamdouna, director of the Center for Prisoners’ Studies, said that the hunger strike decision has turned into a decision of political and security dimensions inside "Israel."
Internal Security Minister, Yitzhak Ohernovich, perceives the prisoners as groups of "terrorists and killers whose hands are stained with blood."
In a document that Ahrarwledna has obtained a copy of, Hamdouna said that the Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, is following up this issue despite many competing political issues, especially the early elections, and its related debates amongst Israeli parties.
Hamdouna confirmed that there is an unprecedented political attack, at the highest level, led by a group of ministers and Knesset members.
He added that Ohernovich always tries to paint a false picture of the status of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli jails, as if they live in summer camps.
Shaul Mofaz, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Israeli Security, and head of the Kadima party, calls for tightening arbitrary measures against them.
Ofikdor Lieberman calls for Palestinian and Arab prisoners to be thrown in the Dead Sea, to get rid of them.
Silvan Shalom, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister, calls for the implementation of the death penalty against some of the Palestinian prisoners.
House of Representatives, Likud Danny Danon, and Katz and others are leading the call for incitement and introducing laws to crack down on prisoners.
Hamdouna, as an ex-detainee, called on national and Islamic forces, all Palestinian and Arab human rights organizations, and the media to support the prisoners in their hunger strike.
He said that all competent authorities have to put pressure on the occupation, by all means and in cooperation with the Arab and Palestinian communities in Europe.
“By doing so, we can activate the broadest solidarity campaign to put pressure on decision-makers, and official circles, in the European Union and various European parliaments, to intervene in order to support the cause of prisoners, and to save them from a slow death,” he added.
