Fijians Mourn Slain Soldier

Members of the Fijian community in New Zealand are mourning the death of their Fijian solider Private Ratu Manasa Silibaravi over the weekend in Afghanistan.

Private Silibaravi was based with the British soldiers on his third tour of duty when he was killed by the Taliban in Nahr-e Saraj.

"A quiet, yet determined and popular soldier, Private Silibaravi was a professional and committed individual. Strong and fit, he had an excellent work ethic, throwing himself wholeheartedly at every challenge. The number of operational tours that he had successfully completed is testament to his dedication and professionalism,'' said Lieutenant Colonel Dom Fletcher.

Private Ratu Manasa Silibaravi fought for international freedom and security and made the ultimate sacrifice, Alton Shameem said.

“On behalf of our members and supporters, I convey our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of our brave and gallant Private Ratu Manasa Silibaravi for the sad loss of their beloved son and brother.

“We will honor and cherish him us one of our Fijian heroes,” said President Alton Shameem JP, the New Zealander - Fijian of Fiji Club New Zealand (FCNZ) and Fiji Council New Zealand (FCoNZ).
