Not Ready For Media Freedom

Not Ready For Media Freedom

Editor,

His personal opinion that Fiji is " not ready for First World media freedom" which Thakur Ranjit Singh articulates in his article " Western way not be best way for Fiji" (Fiji Sun May I) reminds me of Professor Harold J Laski's insightful words in his book Liberty in the Modern State. Professor Laski said one can always come up with excuses when one wants to abstain from a fight for democratic freedoms.

I am also reminded here of Nelson Mandels's saying that " There is no such thing as Part Freedom".

Either one is for Media Freedom or one isn't.

It seems at this point in time Thakur Ranjit Singh isn't for media freedom as it is universally understood. for reasons best known to him.

Yours sincerely,
Rajend Naidu
