Julie Webb-Pullman: Gaza Under Attack… Again [18/6/12]
Gaza Under Attack… Again
By Julie Webb-Pullman18 June 2012
In the last 24 hours in Gaza, four people have been killed and at least nine more taken to hospital as a result of Israeli air strikes. A woman and child were among the injured.
Forget administrative detention – the blame game that imprisons without evidence – Israel now openly and blatantly kills whomsoever it chooses, on the flimsiest pretext.
Remember last August when some Israelis were killed by an attack from Egypt – Israel subjected Gaza to a week of indiscriminate bombing, killing innocent people in their beds and injuring scores more. When the funerals were over and dust cleared, it was found that the attackers were Egyptians, not Gazans.
Did Israel apologise? Did the international community condemn that outrage? Do pigs fly?
Today, someone kills an Israeli soldier in an attack from Egypt, and Israel again retaliates against Gaza. Again, without evidence, again with the loss of innocent lives, again shattering the health of many innocent civilians. And again, the world stays silent.
As I write this, F-16s are flying over, fighting for airspace with their porcine companions, their low throbbing menace mingling with the melodic call to evening prayers.
Welcome to Gaza.
