RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Aziza Mahmoud, the mother of prisoner Mohammed Abdo, died at the Qalandia roadblock on returning from a visit to her son on Tuesday, the Palestinian center for the Defense of Prisoners said.
The Center noted that the mother was exhausted after spending a long time getting to see her son, then waiting for a long time at the roadblock because of the routine search procedures.
Relatives spend hours being humiliated at checkpoints
Thamer Saba’na, a researcher in prisoners’ affairs, said that Mohammed Abdo, from Kufr Nima, is serving 20-year sentence imposed in 2001. Abdo was held by the Israeli prison authority in solitary confinement for three years, the researcher said, adding that Abdo was suffering from urinary tract problems.
Saba’na asked international organizations and human rights groups to demand alleviating the suffering of relatives during visits to their detained next of kin. He also called for bringing to account the Israeli officials responsible for inflicting such suffering on the relatives.
