MPs welcome PMOI’s Delisting by U.S. State Department

MPs welcome PMOI’s Delisting by U.S. State Department

The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom welcomes the decision of the U.S. State Department to lift the unjust terrorist designation of the Iranian Resistance movement PMOI (MEK).

Yesterday’s landmark decision marks the victory of justice and the rule of law over the policy of appeasement which has been pursued for the past two decades towards Iran’s fundamentalist regime. The State Department’sdecision, long overdue, must nowbe matched with support from Washington for democratic change in Iran.

We congratulate Iranian opposition leader Mrs. Maryam Rajavi on her leadership in achieving this victory which was the result of her movement’s firm commitment to the rule of law and unparalleled and relentless legal and political battle.

The West must now end its policy of appeasement towards the mullahs and recognise the PMOI and the Iranian Resistance coalition NCRI as the alternative to the fundamentalist regime. The Iranian people have shown time and again they are ready for democratic change. The regime’s representatives must be expelled from the United Nations and their seat must be offered to the Iranian Resistance.

The PMOI’s de-listing by the State Department, which was ordered by the Court of Appeals and which follows its de-proscription in the UK and Europe, opens the way for democratic countries to accept PMOI members currently relocating from Camp Ashraf, Iraq. The UN must recognise Camp Liberty as a refugee camp under its mandate, and Iraq must immediately allow Ashraf residents to transfer their property from Ashraf to Liberty.

Iraq’s pro-Iranian government had misused the label to justify its inhumane siege and massacres at Camp Ashraf in 2009 and 2011 which left 49 residents killed and more than 1,000 injured.

The winds of democratic change are blowing across the Middle East. With the lifting of the chains of oppression on the Iranian Resistance, the Iranian people will gain renewed strength and determination for achieving democratic change. Iran will be free.
