Launch of the Sweet Home Farm Abahlali baseMjondolo Branch

28 February 2013 Abahlali baseMjondolo Press Statement

Launch of the Sweet Home Farm Abahlali baseMjondolo Branch

The Sweet Home Farm community will be launching its branch under the banner of Abahlali baseMjondolo Movement South Africa, this coming weekend on the 2013-03-02 @ 11:00 in their Local Community Hall next to St. Barnabas Anglican Church. One should remember that, this is a membership based organization struggling for the restoration of human dignity of the majority of poor South Africans. Sweet Home Farm is situated in ward (80) eighty, Philippi in Cape Town, a place where people live in shacks .

Although the community is receiving some services such as clean running water, refuse removal and electricity, we are now tired of waiting for proper and adequate housing. Many promises have been made to us but those promises have never materialized. Sweet Home Farm community stands firm in saying it is now the time when the Cape Town Municipality must talk to us not about us, since we strongly believe that there should be nothing for us without them. We thus believe that the bottom up system is the answer to the social and economic challenges that we face.

This community feels it is the right for the poor majority to stand up, organize and unite in the struggle against all kinds of injustices and inequalities (that divide us) under a non-party political organization since party politics devides the communities instead of uniting them. Therefore the organization of Abahlali baseMjondolo has opened a platform for any individuals and or groups from different political party backgrounds to join in the struggle for the restoration of human dignity, decent housing and services on well located land and democratic struggle for a genuinely democratic society in which the land and wealth will be shared fairly.
