The objective of the event is to raise awareness about human rights violation in the region, enforced disappearance, the two cases themselves and to commemorate 9th anniversary disappearance of Somchai in March. Moreover, the event organizers want to send out messages to ASEAN governments that they could not only focus on the cooperation on economics while ignoring the human rights violation in each countries. The cases of Sombath and Somchai show the failure of the rule of law, transparency and accountability of ASEAN.
