Major Projects Service Initiative

Major Projects Service Initiative

A streamlined approach to working with the developers of large projects in Palmerston North will lead to an improved experience for developers and Council staff.

Palmerston North City Council’s Major Projects Service will provide developers with a dedicated Council project team.

Customer Services general manager, Peter Eathorne, says the service has been driven out of Council’s Business Friendly Initiative and will help Council achieve its goal that Palmerston North is an economically sustainable city which attracts and retains business businesses and jobs to create a prosperous community.

“It will provide developers of large projects with consistent advice as well as timely and effective communication for the duration of the project which will help ensure the project runs smoothly for both the developer and Council.”

A number of criteria are required to be met before a project is considered as a ‘Major Project’ including:
·         Substantial financial investment
·         Involving more than one unit of Council
·         An identified priority sector
·         New employment opportunities
·         A prominent strategic site.
Mr Eathorne says the project team will be made up of technical staff from across relevant Council units and will work with the developer and be responsible for all technical and non-technical information provided.

The service will be monitored and learnings will be adopted to ensure the service achieves its purpose.
