Fiji’s PM Bainimarama to Celebrate Solomon’s 35th Independence Anniversary In Honiara
Fiji’s Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has been confirmed to arrive in Honiara on Saturday as special guest to the Solomon Islands 35th Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
Solomon Islands Prime Minister Hon Gordon Darcy Lilo has invited his Fijian counterpart in May this year to attend the celebrations which will be marked on Monday 8th July.
Besides attending the Independence celebrations, Commodore Bainimarama will engage in a series of meetings including a courtesy call on the Governor General Sir Frank Kabui, a meeting with Prime Minister Lilo and a special meeting with Cabinet Ministers.
He is also scheduled to attend a number of events including a wreath laying ceremony at the Fijian WWII Cemetery at Varamata, attend the Leaders’ Prayer Breakfast on Sunday, meeting with the Solomon Fijian Community and unveil and present a Fijian Monument to the Government and people of Solomon Islands at the National Museum to mark this event.
Arriving earlier on Thursday were members of the Fiji Military and Police Forces who previously participated in the RAMSI military and PPF programs.
The troops will be engaged in a number of community activities including awareness on law and order and general maintenance on school and medical facilities in Honiara.
They will also participate during the official Independence Anniversary parade at Lawson Tama on Monday.
The Fiji leader will leave Solomon Islands Tuesday 9th July.
