Muslim Brotherhood Condemns the Arrest of Its Spokesperson & Crackdown on Freedoms in Egypt
Putschists in Egypt are continuing their atrocious violations of basic human rights and rule of law, and escalating crackdown against opponents of the military coup.Putschists in Egypt are continuing their atrocious violations of basic human rights and rule of law, and escalating crackdown against opponents of the military coup. Today, Muslim Brotherhood Spokesperson Gehad El-Haddad along with three other members; Mr. Mohamed Ebrahim; Dr. Ahmad Diab; and Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zaid, were arrested in Cairo, in an attempt to silence every voice calling for freedom and justice in Egypt.
Thousands of peaceful anti-coup activists throughout the country have been arbitrarily arrested on trumped up charges, and sent to prison without due process. The Military Junta in Egypt has imposed emergency laws since the bloody coup of July 3, 2013, and civilian political prisoners are subject to military trials with no right to appeal. Yesterday three anti coup protesters in Suez were sentenced to 3 years in prison for "chants likely to harm national interest".
The
Muslim Brotherhood and the Anti-coup Alliance strongly
condemn the illegal practices by the fascist regime in
Egypt, and demand the immediate release of all political
prisoners. More Egyptians, including many of those who
participated in the June 30 protests against President
Morsi, are beginning to realize that their aspirations for
more freedoms and democracy have been hijacked by a ruthless
military regime that has brought Egypt back to an era worse
than that of Hosni Mubarak. History will teach putschists
that killing, torture and arrests will not succeed to
frighten or silence the millions of patriotic Egyptians
calling for freedom and democracy. We will continue our
relentless peaceful fight for freedom, legitimacy, and
justice till Egypt is free. Muslim Brotherhood
