Dr. Ashrawi conducts separate meetings with American Consul General Michael Ratney and French Consul General Hervé Magro

PLO Executive Committee member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi conducted separate meetings with American Consul General Michael Ratney and French Consul General Hervé Magro.

In her meetings, Dr. Ashrawi provided an assessment of the latest developments and facts on the ground, Israel’s withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, Israel’s ongoing violations of international law and human rights, including the latest escalation in its illegal settlement enterprise, the flagrant attacks on Palestinian holy sites and the increase in home demolitions in and around Jerusalem, updates concerning UN and international moves, including the ICC initiative, the upcoming PLO Central Council meeting, the horrific aftermath of Israel’s war on Gaza and the dire need for rapid relief and reconstruction in Gaza, Israel’s exploitation of its upcoming elections as a means to win votes at the expense of the Palestinians, and the danger inherent in the absence of any prospects for peace.

Dr. Ashrawi and Mr. Ratney discussed the recent U.S. District Court case against the PLO and the Palestinian government, as well as general U.S. policy and regional developments.

In their meeting, Dr. Ashrawi and Mr. Magro discussed the French initiative and France’s leading role in urging a more engaged European policy, as well as concrete plans to end the occupation within a specific timeframe which would send a message of hope to the Palestinian people that there is a political will to change the current lethal dynamic.
