CDS Unveils Exhibit on Assad War Crimes at United Nations [Updated]
Washington, DC – CDS unveils an exhibit at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in coordination with the Syrian Opposition Coalition featuring photographs of torture and brutality at the hands of the Assad regime.
The exhibit displays selected photos, taken in regime prisons, by defected forensic photographer “Caesar.” The 55,000 photos Caesar smuggled out of Syria documented at least 11,000 deaths under detainment between 2012 to 2013. The majority of individuals in these photos remain unidentified, and their fates may be unknown to their loved ones.
“These photos are just a small sample of the systemized torture that the Assad regime uses to inflict suffering on the Syrian people,” said CDS Political Adviser Mouaz Moustafa. “In hosting this exhibit, CDS hopes to remind UN member nations of the ongoing brutality committed by the Assad regime as well as to inspire states to pursue measures to seek justice on behalf of those who have experienced this barbarity.”
CDS extends its gratitude the UN missions of France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as the additional nine sponsoring nations, for their support of this initiative.
CDS continues to work closely with Caesar and his team to expose the world to the horrors he documented through similar exhibitions at prominent institutions such as the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C., the United States Congress and the United Nations Security Council.
The Caesar exhibit opens March 10 and will conclude on March 20.
