Hindu statesman Zed offers condolences on Lee Kuan Yew’s death

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has offered condolences on the death of Lee Kuan Yew, said to be modern Singapore’s founding father, who died on March 23 in Singapore General Hospital.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that they were saddened by the passing of Lee Kuan Yew, 91, a charismatic and towering political figure who gave Singapore a new economic model.

Rajan Zed pointed out that Lee, prime minister for 31 years and known as architect of Singapore's prosperity, was instrumental in transforming resource poor Singapore to a wealthy global trade and financial hub with low crime and corruption and raised standard of living. Lee was an inspiration for many developing countries and politicians.

Zed wished that Singapore continued on the path of prosperity on the foundations laid be Lee; and suggested that after such a remarkable financial success, it was time now for Singapore to relax the tighter controls on media and speech.
