On The Road To Bau Island

ON THE ROAD TO BAU ISLAND

Logani Sebi Road Landing in Nausori was once the primary access by boat to Bau Island. But because of the roads deterioration over the years the landing was no longer accessible, the road had become little more than a “cow path”, according to Uwate Vunivuni a resident farmer.

But that is now history with the recent upgrading work by Fulton Hogan Hiways on the 1.5 km road. The company has cleared drainage, resheeted and widened Logani Sebi by 6 metres, work that was carried out under its contract with the Fiji Roads Authority.

With the road now opened, Bau villagers can drive directly to the landing to catch the ferry for the short three-minute boat ride to their island.

Of equal importance, according to Mr. Vunivuni, the 20 families that live along the road who are mostly vegetable farmers now have direct access to transport from their homes to the Nausori market.

“It is a big relief to have our road back and we thank Fulton Hogan Hiways for their help,” Mr. Vunivuni concluded.
