WAF Carts Water to Those in Need

Waf Carts Water to Those in Need

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) continues to prioritise water-carting services to affected customers and non-metered residents throughout Fiji.

So far, WAF has carted more than 38 mega litres of water to the affected people at a cost of more than $1 million for cartage costs alone, following the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Winston in February and now, the more recent Tropical Cyclone Zena.

WAF CEO, Mr Opetaia Ravai, said that despite these efforts, there were reports of water- carting staff being verbally abused and stones being thrown at water carts.

“We understand that some people are frustrated about not receiving water as soon as they would like, but we are doing our best to deliver water to all our customers and non-metered residents in need of our water carting services,” said Mr Ravai.

“We are urging people to store rain water while it is readily available to supplement their supply. For health purposes, we also continue to advise people in affected areas to boil drinking water before consumption.”
