Henderson to Host Oceania Junior Championships 2017

Henderson to Host Oceania Junior Championships 2017

Squash New Zealand is pleased to announce the 2017 hosts of the Oceania Junior Championships and the Trans-Tasman Junior Test Series will be the Henderson Squash Club in Auckland.

Last time the Oceania Junior Championships was held in New Zealand was in 2015 when it was hosted in Invercargill where the event attracted over 120 entries. It is hoped in 2017 this event will be able to attract close to 200 entries from Australia, Malaysia, the Pacific Islands and all around New Zealand.

The Trans-Tasman Junior Test Series will run directly after the Oceania Junior Championships where New Zealand will be looking to make it three in a row after claiming the title in 2015 in Invercargill and narrowly defending their title in 2016 on the Gold Coast winning 19 matches to 17.

The Henderson Squash Club will be the host of this event in 2017, with a wealth of knowledge and experience in running events they will definitely be looking to make this a great event for all involved. The Henderson Squash Club have run a number of National events in the past years including the New Zealand Junior Age Group Nationals in 2011 and the Masters Nationals in 2013. One of their most notable events would be the hosting of a Professional Squash Event in 2012. This event in 2017 will add to the clubs history and will sure to be a great one.

2017 will see New Zealand a buzz with three International Events gracing our shores for all age groups. The Oceania Junior Championships will kick off these events over Easter Weekend in April, this will be followed by the World Masters Games from 21-30 April. Top juniors from all around the world will then return in July from 19-28 to compete in the World Junior Championships and the World Junior Women’s Team Championships.
