Extinction Rebellion Behind OMV Hoax

We did it.

We, activists of international environmentalist group Extinction Rebellion, are behind the OMV hoax recently causing confusion among journalists around the world.

We targeted OMV because it is a fossil fuel company spending a lot of money to greenwash its image into that of an environmentally friendly corporation. Fossil fuels and fossil fuel producers are part of the problem, not the solution.

OMV’s so-called successes, such as the much-hyped plastic-into-oil experiment are running at a scale so tiny in comparison it would take years to produce as much as a single day’s conventional oil output.

Therefore, we decided to present you a vision of what would happen if the OMV suddenly decided to truly take the climate emergency seriously. The outlined “Long Term Sustainable Development Plan” provides an ambitious path towards decarbonisation – which is, by Extinction Rebellion standards, not even close to what we want: net zero emissions by 2025!
