Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.
Situation: A ridge covers much of the country today. A cold front, presently in the south Tasman, is expected to move onto Otago and Southland tonight then spread north early tomorrow reaching Cook Strait about the middle of the day. The front is followed by a wintry outbreak. Saturday also sees a shallow low crossing the upper North Island. Sunday and Monday sees a disturbed south to southwest flow slowly easing as an intense Tasman Sea anticyclone drifts further east. The high should move onto the country later Tuesday.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE,TAUPO, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Fine weather continuing in most places today but cloud and rain developing about Northland from evening with high cloud spreading into areas north of Taupo tonight. Tomorrow rain or showers in most places. Turing colder as showery southerlies work northward. Snow expected about the central plateau after dark to 800 metres which affects the desert road. On Sunday showers persisting about the central mountains and main ranges, elsewhere fine periods increasing. Mainly fine and frosty Monday and Tuesday but from Auckland northwards skies cloudy at times.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Fine today and at first tomorrow then cloud increasing. Cold southerlies sweeping north into Wairarapa early afternoon with showers, these reaching Gisborne after dark. On Sunday clearing inland but a few light showers persisting about the coast. Mainly fine and frosty after that apart from brief coastal showers again early Monday.
WELLINGTON: Fine today and at first tomorrow apart from cloudy periods. From about the middle of Saturday cold southerlies and showers developing. Snow likely about the eastern ranges at night. Sunday sees showers easing with long fine periods developing. Mainly fine Monday and Tuesday with frosts.
NELSON: Apart from a period of widespread showers around the middle of tomorrow conditions mainly fine and frosty during the period.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Fine today. Cold southerlies spreading north tomorrow morning with rain then easing to showers. Snow to the ranges later to 700 metres. On Sunday fine and frosty inland with remaining cloud and coastal showers clearing. Fine frosty conditions everywhere from Monday onwards.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloud
increasing with showers developing about Fiordland then
spreading further north tonight. Snow overnight about
Fiordland to 500 metres. Tomorrow showers gradually clearing
from the south. Mostly fine frosty weather Sunday and
Monday. Cloudy periods south of the glaciers Tuesday.
elsewhere remaining settled.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain becoming widespread this evening with cold southerlies. Snow lowering to 500 metres overnight. Tomorrow the snow level rising with showers retreating to coastal places. Becoming very frosty inland. On Sunday and Monday light showers continuing about the south coast and Stewart Island otherwise fine and frosty. Tuesday sees the flow more westerly with cloudy and fine periods.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers today. Tomorrow showers becoming more frequent with very cold southwesterlies strengthening. Showery periods continuing after that but from early Monday showers fewer and far between with winds slowly easing.
