Weather Workshop Five Day Forecast

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.

Situation: A strong northwest flow covers the country. A front moves onto the lower South Island today. The front crosses the North Island and upper South Island tomorrow and is followed by a disturbed westerly airstream. A southerly change spreads up the east coast of the South Island late on Saturday. On Sunday and Monday, southerlies spread over the remainder of the country while
a high in the Tasman Sea pushes a ridge onto the lower South Island. Tuesday sees the ridge covering much of the country and a westerly flow develops over Southland.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TAUPO: Cloud increasing today with showers developing this evening. Tomorrow, morning rain easing to showers and fine breaks. Further showers on Sunday then clearing and becoming fine on Monday. Mostly fine on Tuesday.

COROMANDEL PENINSULA and BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: A mix of cloud and fine breaks today. Rain developing tomorrow morning then breaking to showers from the west by afternoon. Further showers on Sunday. Becoming fine early on Monday and remaining fine on Tuesday.

TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Mostly cloudy with showers turning to rain overnight. Rain easing to showers again tomorrow and remaining showery on Sunday. Showers retreat to the main ranges on Monday and fine everywhere on Tuesday.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: High cloud increasing today with warm, gusty northwesterlies. Rain spreading off the ranges for a time tomorrow then clearing south of Napier. Mostly cloudy on Sunday with a few coastal showers. Showers on Monday then clearing from the south after dark. Becoming fine in most places on Tuesday.

WELLINGTON: Cloud increasing with showers and strong northerlies today. Morning rain easing to a few showers tomorrow. Cloudy and cool on Sunday with showers developing late at night. Showers slowly clearing on Monday and mainly fine on Tuesday.

NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: High cloud today with rain about the western ranges and falls spreading further east overnight. A few showers tomorrow but fine breaks increasing. Cloudy but dry on Sunday apart from showers about the Kaikoura coast. Becoming fine on Monday and remaining fine on Tuesday.

CANTERBURY: Fine today apart from high cloud. High cloud thickening tomorrow with patchy rain developing and gale northwesterlies. Showers and cool southwesterlies on Saturday. Becoming fine in most places Sunday but a few showers remain about the coast. Fine and frosty on Monday and remaining fine on Tuesday.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain today with heavy falls possible over Fiordland. Saturday sees rain becoming confined to Buller with showers elsewhere. The odd shower again in the far south Sunday and Monday otherwise a mix of fine and cloudy weather. On Tuesday rain redeveloping south of the glaciers, cloudy elsewhere.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloudy with rain spreading from the west today. Showers and cool southeasterlies tomorrow. Becoming fine on Sunday and fine Monday. Fine inland on Tuesday but cloudy about the coast with showers developing.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy and dry with northwesterlies strengthening today. Rain Saturday then colder with southwesterlies from afternoon. Cold and showery Sunday and Monday. Becoming fine on Tuesday.
