Weather Workshop Five Day Forecast

Issued by Weather Workshop on Saturday, July 03, 1999 at 11.15am

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Wednesday.

Situation: A low centred west of the South Island is slowly drifting northeast. A disturbed westerly flow covers the North Island today and a southeast flow affects the South Island. Tomorrow, the low weakens and moves away from the country. A southerly change spreads up the North Island while a high in the
Tasman Sea pushes a ridge onto the lower South Island. Monday sees the ridge spread over much of the country and a westerly flow develops in the far south. The high moves north of New Zealand on Tuesday and Wednesday and allows a westerly flow to cover most of the country.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO and TAUMARANUI: Rain easing to showers later today. Further showers tomorrow then clearing and becoming mainly fine on Monday. Mainly fine on Tuesday but showers developing on Wednesday.

COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Rain becoming widespread today then easing to showers from the west later. Further showers tomorrow. Becoming fine early on Monday and remaining fine on Tuesday. Fine again Wednesday but a few showers possible late in the day.

TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloudy with outbreaks of rain easing to showers later today. Showery again tomorrow then becoming fine on Monday. A few cloudy periods on Tuesday and showers returning on Wednesday.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Rain spreading off the ranges for a time today with heavy falls possible north of Gisborne City. Clearing south of Napier later. Showers and southerlies spread north on Sunday. Showers slowly clearing from the south and becoming fine on Monday then mostly fine Tuesday and Wednesday.
