The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Friday.
Situation: A low
lies just west of the South Island today. A large sheet of
high cloud covers most of the country. A frontal system
associated with the low crosses the country tomorrow then
the low becomes complex and covers much of central New
Zealand on Wednesday. On Thursday the low lies east of the
country and a southerly airstream affects most places as a
high in the Tasman Sea pushes a ridge onto the lower South
Island. On Friday the ridge remains over
the bottom of
the country as a new low develops east of Gisborne
maintaining the southerly flow over the remainder of the
country.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of
PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI,
TAIHAPE, TAUPO, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloud increasing
today with rain developing from Northland to Taranaki and
scattered falls further south. Remaining dry in Bay of
Plenty however until well after dark. Rain to all areas
tomorrow then easing to showers from the west. Showery in
most places from Wednesday through until Friday but mostly
dry in Bay of
Plenty.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: High cloud increasing today but remaining dry. Outbreaks of rain tomorrow. Mainly fine on Wednesday with gusty westerlies. Drizzly rain developing on Thursday with light winds. Further drizzly rain on Friday with southeasterlies.
WELLINGTON: High cloud thickening today with scattered rain developing later. Rain tomorrow, easing to showers later. Showery on Wednesday. A period of rain on Thursday with southerlies developing. Showery on Friday with southerlies continuing
NELSON: Rain becoming widespread today. Tomorrow, rain easing to showers from early morning. Showery on Wednesday then becoming fine on Thursday. Mainly fine on Friday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Periods of rain today and tomorrow. Showers about Buller on Wednesday otherwise mainly fine. Mainly fine on Thursday and Friday.
MARLBOROUGH, CANTERBURY and OTAGO: High cloud
today with rain developing about the alps Cloudy tomorrow
with rain about the alps and a few falls spreading further
east at times. Drizzle patches developing along the Otago
coast also. On Wednesday, showery about Marlborough and
North Canterbury but clearing further south. Rain and
southeasterlies on Thursday. Further rain on Friday but
slowly clearing in inland Otago.
SOUTHLAND: Cloudy today. Cloudy tomorrow with drizzle patches about the coast. Showers and cool southerlies develop later on Wednesday. Remaining showery on Thursday with southeast winds. Cloudy about the coast on Friday but slowly becoming fine inland.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloud and fine breaks today. Rain developing late tomorrow with freshening northerlies. Rain on Wednesday then easing to showers on Thursday. Showery again on Friday.
