All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The
Situation: An active trough and associated frontal zone is
crossing the North Island and should move off the
northeast
tonight. A second weaker feature is likely to
affect the lower
South Island later today.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND,
AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA
and TAUPO: Rain becoming widespread and persistent this
morning with northwesterlies, strong and gusty in exposed
places. A change to
showers this evening with winds
turning southwest and easing.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO,
TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU:
Rain breaking to showers this afternoon with fine
periods increasing
from the south. Gusty northwesterlies
easing then turning southwest
later this
afternoon.
WELLINGTON: Rain breaking to showers this
morning with
northerlies easing further. A brief
southerly change this afternoon
with a few further
showers.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Brief rain
spreading east from
the main ranges with northwest winds
easing then a change to
southerlies with a few showers
working north.
NELSON: Remaining rain areas soon clearing
then mainly fine.
Southwest winds.
MARLBOROUGH: Rain
clearing this morning but a few coastal showers
persisting for a time. Northwesterlies dying out and
southwesterlies
spreading north this morning.
CANTERBURY: Rain about the Alps slowly clearing from the
south,
elsewhere a mix of fine and cloudy periods. Not
much wind.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A mix of cloudy
and fine spells
with a few showers in most places. From
evening rain setting in
again south of the glaciers.
West to southwest winds.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloudy
skies. A few coastal showers at first
then rain becoming
widespread in the south from evening. Westerlies
freshening this afternoon to become strong and gusty
about Foveaux
Strait tonight.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain
and strong northwesterlies for much of the
day. Rain
easing tonight with winds turning to lighter
southwesterlies.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: A disturbed
west to southwest flow should
cover the country with
showers in many places. At the Chatham Islands,
showers
and fine periods, southwesterlies tending westerly.
