Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Wednesday:

Situation: A cold front is moving over the country today and is followed by a southwesterly airstream. From Sunday through until Wednesday southwesterly conditions are likely to remain over the country with weak fronts embedded in the flow crossing the country from time to time.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO: Showery in most places today. A few light showers tomorrow through till Tuesday with southwest winds but mainly fine in Bay of Plenty. On Wednesday fine weather to most places with light winds.

WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAUPO, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Rain from Taranaki north today but just a few showers further south. A few showers tomorrow and Monday then showers becoming confined to Taranaki on Tuesday. Fine to most places on Wednesday.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Brief rain today then showers and southerlies working northward later. A few coastal showers tomorrow but becoming fine inland. Showers become widespread again for a time on Monday then clearing on Tuesday. Mostly fine on Wednesday.

WELLINGTON: Cloud and fine breaks today with a few showers developing tonight. A few morning showers tomorrow then fine breaks increasing. A period of rain on Monday with southerlies freshening then becoming fine on Tuesday and remaining fine on Wednesday.

NELSON: Becoming mainly fine today. Fine tomorrow. A few showers on Monday then fine again Tuesday and Wednesday with southwest winds.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: A few showers about the Kaikoura coast today otherwise becoming mainly fine. Mostly fine tomorrow. A few showers early Monday then clearing inland later. Fine Tuesday and Wednesday with southwest winds.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A few showers turning to rain south of the glaciers today. Showery tomorrow. A few showers on Monday and Tuesday then becoming fine on Wednesday.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloud and fine breaks with a few showers about the coast becoming widespread for a time later tomorrow. Monday through till Wednesday sees winds from the west or southwest along with coastal showers and fine periods inland.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain today with northwesterlies turning southwest later. From Sunday onwards changeable showery conditions with cold southwesterlies.
