Weather Workshop Five Day Forecast

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Monday:

Situation: A high in the Tasman Sea drifts onto the country today. The high remains over the North Island until Sunday with a westerly flow affecting the lower South Island. On Sunday the high weakens and allows a southwest change to spread up the country. Southwesterlies continue to affect most places on Monday.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TARANAKI: Mostly fine today but a few cloudy periods about the coast. Fine with light winds through till Saturday. Cloudy at times Sunday and Monday with a few showers possible about the coast and southwest winds.

COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA and TAUPO: Mostly fine weather with light winds. Southwesterlies developing on Monday.

TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: A few cloudy periods clearing today with west to southwest winds. Fine tomorrow through till Saturday. A few cloudy periods on Sunday and Monday with southwest breezes.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Cloud and any remaining coastal showers clearing today. Fine tomorrow and Saturday. A few showers and southerlies spread north on Sunday. Mainly fine with westerlies on Monday.

WELLINGTON: Becoming fine today and remaining fine until Saturday. A few brief showers Sunday with southerly winds. A few cloudy periods Monday with northerlies developing.

NELSON: Mostly fine with southwesterlies dying out today then light winds until Sunday. A few cloudy periods on Monday with southwest winds developing.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Remaining areas of coastal cloud clearing today otherwise fine. Fine tomorrow and Saturday. A few morning showers clearing on Sunday with southwest winds then fine again Monday.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Becoming fine today. Cloudy about Fiordland tomorrow but mostly fine elsewhere. Patchy rain south of the glaciers on Saturday with cloudy skies further north. A few showers on Sunday and Monday with southwest winds.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mainly fine today but a few cloudy periods remain about the south coast. Cloudy with a few light showers in Southland on Friday but mainly fine in Otago. Rain at times in Southland on Saturday with scattered falls reaching Otago. Cloudy on Sunday and Monday with showers retreating to the coast and southwest winds.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cold and showery today and tomorrow with gusty southwest winds. On Friday and Saturday, a mix of cloud and fine breaks with southwesterlies easing. Showers and southwesterlies redevelop on Sunday and further showers on Monday.
