Weather Workshop Five Day Forecast
The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New
Zealand
to midnight Thursday:
Situation: A persistent
high east of the country is expected to drift
slowly
away over the next few days while extending a weakening
ridge
toward the upper North Island. A northwest flow is
strengthening over
South Island areas ahead of a Tasman
Sea trough which is expected to
approach from the west
early tomorrow. During Tuesday and Wednesday
the trough
is likely to become slow moving over New Zealand and
become quite complex before drifting away on Thursday.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of
PLENTY/ROTORUA
and TAUPO: Cloudy about Northland today
with a few light showers,
elsewhere mainly fine. A good
deal more cloud about tomorrow with
freshening
northeasterlies and showers spreading to many places.
Further showers Tuesday then rain at times during
Wednesday. Rain
easing to showers from the west later,
winds turning southwest.
Fine in most areas Thursday but
showers may persist from Auckland
north.
WAIKATO,
WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and
MANAWATU: Mainly fine today apart from the odd light
shower from
Wanganui southward. Tomorrow sees rather
cloudier skies with
showers more extensive in the west.
Drizzly rain with
northwesterlies Tuesday. More
persistent and widespread rain
Wednesday then easing to
showers later with winds turning south
or southwest.
Becoming mostly fine Thursday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and
WAIRARAPA: Settled dry conditions
expected thru to
Tuesday with northwesterlies freshening
tomorrow.
Wednesday sees a period of rain in most areas,
colder
southerlies working into Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay
later. Showers
and fine periods Thursday.
WELLINGTON:
Cloudy periods today with light showers in the north.
Cloudy and windy from the north tomorrow with showers
more
widespread. Outbreaks of rain Tuesday, northerlies
easing. More
persistent rain Wednesday and colder with
southerlies developing.
Showers gradually clearing
Thursday.
NELSON: Cloud about the western ranges becoming
more extensive
tomorrow with drizzle developing. A
period of rain during Tuesday
with northerlies. Rain
areas clearing Wednesday, winds turning
southwest.
Mainly fine Thursday.
MARLBOROUGH, CANTERBURY and OTAGO:
Fine and mild today. Tomorrow
sees extensive upper cloud
thickening with rain about the Alps
and western ranges
spreading elsewhere at times. Rain reaching
most places
Tuesday. During Wednesday skies slowly clearing from
the
south about Canterbury and Otago but further north patchy
rain persisting. Mainly fine everywhere
Thursday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Overcast with
drizzly rain becoming
more widespread and persistent
tomorrow. Heavy falls expected south
of Hokitiki. Rain
easing to showers Tuesday then clearing about
the
fiords. Remaining showers clearing from Westland and Buller
Wednesday, mainly fine elsewhere. Mainly fine everywhere
Thursday.
SOUTHLAND: Cloud increasing. Rain in the west
working east tonight.
Rain easing to showers tomorrow
and turning colder with southerlies.
Tuesday sees rain
clearing but remaining rather cloudy. Drizzle
areas
later along the south coast and about Stewart Island. On
Wednesday cloudy in the south again but inland becoming
mainly fine.
Mainly fine everywhere Thursday.
CHATHAM
ISLANDS: Long fine periods today then skies cloudier
tomorrow.
Tuesday sees showers with colder
southwesterlies. Further showers
Wednesday. On Thursday
showers few and far between with fine periods
increasing.
