All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The
Situation: A ridge of high pressure over the north of the
North
Island should persist today but weaken slowly from
a high to the east.
A front in the Tasman Sea is moving
east and is preceded by a strong
moist northwest flow.
The front should move over the lower South
Island this
morning reaching Westland after dark. A low is likely to
form on the front and is expected to lie east of Otago
by early
tomorrow.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA and BAY
of PLENTY/ROTORUA:
Cloud increasing. A few light showers
at times. North to northeast
winds.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO,
TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TAIHAPE, TARANAKI, WANGANUI
and
MANAWATU: Cloud increasing. A few showers spreading to most
places by the end of the day. North to northwest winds
becoming
brisk.
WELLINGTON: A mostly cloudy day ahead
with strong gusty northerlies.
A few showers developing
also, especially in the north.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY,
WAIRARAPA: Mainly fine and mild. Not much
wind north of
Napier but further south northwesterlies
strengthening.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Cloudy about the
western ranges of Nelson
with drizzly rain. Elsewhere
fine apart from cloudy periods.
Northerly
winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Heavy rain about
Fiordland for
much of the day spreading to central
Westland by evening. Further
north lighter falls
expected. North to northeast winds.
CANTERBURY: Another
mild dry day in the east with high cloud.
About the
western ranges rain becoming widespread this morning.
Heavy falls likely about the headwaters of the lakes and
main
rivers from the Rakaia southward. Breezy northwest
winds.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain with heavy falls in the
western ranges
spreading east today but only small
amounts of rain reaching the
east of Otago until
tonight. Strong gusty northwesterlies in some
exposed
places easing from evening.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A good deal
of sunshine expected but skies
clouding in this
afternoon. Strengthening northwest winds.
THE OUTLOOK FOR
TOMORROW: A few showers in the north and west
of the
North Island turning to widespread rain from Taranaki
to
Wellington. It should remain dry about eastern areas.
Morning
frontal rain in most South Island places then
colder southerlies
spread north with clearing skies in
the west. Showery in the
south and east with brief snow
to 5-600 metres. At the Chathams,
showers turning to
rain.
