The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New
Zealand
to midnight Sunday:
Situation: A trough east
of the country should continue to drift
away tomorrow as
a ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South
Island.
Friday sees the ridge moving onto the North Island as new
trough develops in the south Tasman Sea. This trough
looks unlikely
to affect much of the country until later
on Sunday with a high
persisting until
then.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of
PLENTY/ROTORUA
TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI,
TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI
and MANAWATU A few showers
about Bay of Plenty and areas north of
Hamilton today,
elsewhere a mix of fine and cloudy periods.
Tomorrow
mainly fine with just the odd shower north of about
Auckland. Friday and Saturday sees a good deal of
sunshine in most
places but skies rather cloudy about
Northland. Cloud increasing
Sunday in the north and
west. Bay of Plenty to Taupo stays fine
GISBORNE, HAWKES
BAY and WAIRARAPA: Rain persisting north of Mahia
until
early tomorrow then a few showers for a time, further south
mostly cloudy but with fine periods increasing later.
Skies clearing
Friday then settled over the
weekend.
WELLINGTON: A mix of cloud and fine spells today
and tomorrow with
little if any showers. Fine Friday and
Saturday. Sunday sees an
increase in wind from the north
then late showers.
NELSON: Conditions fine and settled
until later Saturday then cloud
increasing. Patchy rain
and northerlies Sunday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY:
Remaining cloud and the odd coastal
shower clearing
tomorrow otherwise fine but cold with easing
southerlies. Friday and Saturday sees a mix of cloud and
fine
weather, the cloud chiefly coastal. High cloud
increasing Sunday
but dry in most places, rain later to
the main divide.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Fine
today and tomorrow but later
Thursday cloud increasing
about the fiords. Cloudier generally,
Friday with patchy
rain likely south of Haast. Drizzly rain
spreading
further north during Saturday. More persistent and
heavier falls expected Sunday with strengthening
northerlies.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloud and remaining
showers near the coasts
clearing later today. Inland
becoming fine and frosty. Fine and
cool tomorrow apart
from cloud about the south coast and Stewart
Island.
Friday sees more extensive cloud but it should remain dry.
Patchy rain in the west later Saturday, elsewhere dry
again.
Sunday sees rain spreading to most areas with
persistent falls
about the western ranges.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Rain easing to showers early tomorrow
with colder
southerlies developing with a few fine
breaks likely later. Showers
fewer and far between by
Friday with winds easing and turning
southwest. Cloudy
and dry over the weekend.
