Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Wednesday:

Situation: A low lies west of the South Island today as a high slowly drifts east of the country. Tomorrow the low drifts southeast and a moist northerly airstream develops over New Zealand ahead of an approaching front. On Monday the low passes to the south of the South Island and the front crosses the country. The front then becomes slow moving and a new low forms in the central Tasman Sea. On Wednesday the new low moves onto the North Island and a cool
southerly flow affects the lower South Island

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Mainly fine today apart from a few cloudy periods. Cloud increasing tomorrow in the north and west with late rain to Northland and a few patchy falls to Taranaki. Rain to most places on Monday with northerly winds. Rain easing to showers on Tuesday with southwesterlies. Cloudy on Wednesday with late rain about Northland and Auckland and northerly winds.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Mainly fine today and tomorrow apart from increasing high cloud. Cloudy on Monday with patchy rain spreading off the ranges. Rain on Tuesday then easing overnight. Becoming mainly fine on Wednesday with north to northwest winds.

WELLINGTON: Mainly fine today apart from a few cloudy periods. Tomorrow, cloud increasing from the north then late showers well after dark. Outbreaks of rain and gusty northerlies on Monday. Drizzly rain and southeasterlies on Tuesday. On Wednesday a mix of cloud and fine breaks with northerlies redeveloping.

NELSON: Cloud increasing later today. Mainly cloudy tomorrow with late rain developing. Rain and northerlies on Monday. Rain easing early Tuesday then becoming fine. Cloud increasing Wednesday with patchy rain later. Northerly winds.

MARLBOROUGH, CANTERBURY and OTAGO: mainly fine today. Some high cloud developing later. High cloud thickening tomorrow but dry in most places, rain later to the main divide. Patchy rain spreading off the alps from time to time on Monday with gusty northwest winds. Becoming fine on Tuesday with northwesterlies easing then showers and southerlies spread into south Canterbury late in the day. A few showers about the Otago coast on Wednesday, a mix of cloud and fine breaks elsewhere.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain about Fiordland spreading to Westland today with patchy falls further north. Widespread rain tomorrow. Rain easing to showers on Monday. Rain and cool southwesterlies in Fiordland on Tuesday but only a few showers further north. A few showers about Fiordland on Wednesday with cloud and fine breaks elsewhere

SOUTHLAND: Mostly cloudy with some scattered rain today and tomorrow. Rain to most places on Monday with northwesterlies turning westerly. Showers and cool southwesterlies develop on Tuesday. Further showers on Wednesday but with fine breaks inland.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showers easing today. Mainly fine tomorrow. On Monday a few showers and northerly winds. Showers turning to rain on Tuesday with northerlies strengthening. Rain easing to a few showers on Wednesday, westerly winds.
